Sharon Hayes: After Before | in the near future

Published in 2008 by Art in General, New York

The book includes an introductory text by curator Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy about two projects by artist Sharon Hayes presented in 2005 as part of Art in General’s New Commissions Program: the video installation After Before, using footage collected from interviews on democracy and nationhood conducted in New York City during the summer of 2004, when the RNC convention took place and while the artist was in residence at the LMCC Workspace Program; and, in the near future, a performance by Hayes co-presented by Art in General and Performa05, the first biennale of visual art performance. Aside from including documentation of these projects, the book includes texts by the artist, curator, and artist and writer Doug Ashford; also, a forward by Anne J. Barlow, executive director of Art in General, who introduces Art in General and the New Commissions Program. This book is one in a series published as part of such program; the series and first ten volumes were conceptualized and edited by Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, with assistance of Miguel Amado. It is designed by Project Projects.
